After graduating from Jamestown High School, Tom served in the U.S. Army.   He was a member of the 9th Infantry Division and was stationed in the Mei Kong Delta during his tour in Vietnam after which he earned the rank of Sgt. E-5.

In 1972 Tom joined John W. Tiffany VFW Post 53 in Jamestown.  He became a life member in 1997 and currently is a Gold Legacy Life Member.

Tom advanced through the chairs and earned the All State Post Commander’s award during 2000-2001.  Since joining the VFW, he always served his Post and was recently elected, for the third time, as Sr. Vice Commander.   In 2002-2003 he was elected as Chautauqua County Commander and in 2004-2005 as Sixth District Commander.

Tom has served on many State Committees including eight years on the National Veteran Service Committee.  He was appointed Patriotic Instructor at the State Convention in 2015, Chief of Staff at the 2016 State Convention and State Jr. Vice Commander at the 2017 State Convention, State Sr. Vice Commander and is currently serving as State Commander.

After returning to the States from Vietnam, Tom was assigned to work at the Military Air. Radio Station, (i.e.; M.A.R.S) radio station at Ft. Ord, patching phone calls from Vietnam to families back in the States. After leaving the military, Tom moved to Napa, California where he took advantage of the GI Bill.  He attended Napa Valley Community College in 1971, transferred to Jamestown Community College where he earned an Associate Degree in 1972.  Tom earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from SUNY Fredonia in 1975.

Tom traveled the United States while he was employed for ten years as a National Account Manager for Pitney Bowes.  In 1986 Tom went to work for Sony Corporation. He had several assignments, the last of which was a GSA Account Manager position, where he sold Broadcast Video Equipment to government subcontractors throughout the Northeast Corridor

In 2003 Tom was hired as a Service Officer by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of New York.  He was responsible for the Buffalo Regional Office. Currently, Tom is the Director of Veterans Service for the Department as is responsible for the entire state.

In 2008 Tom joined the staff of Buffalo Veterans Court as one of its original mentors; a position he holds today.  The Buffalo Veterans Court serves as a role model for similar courts throughout the United States.

No one does more for Veterans than the VFW and Tom Todaro is proud to be a member of this great organization.

It is my pleasure to introduce Tom Todaro, State Commander.
